Made in Ecuador, one of about a hundred balsa boards Gary shaped there in the late 1970s.

"I was living in Brazil with my wife, trying to get my residence papers," Gary says. "They finally came through, but there was a catch. You had to deposit a thousand dollars per person in a Brazilian bank to travel. That would have been three thousand, my wife was pregnant, plus another three for airfare. We would not have been able to go home. So we declined the residence after working on it for two years."

Eight days to pack up and leave.
